Taiwan’s LED output value in 2015 is expected to increase to US$5.4 billion

Taiwan Minister of Economic Affairs Deng Zhenzhong recently visited the Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance. Su Fengzheng, chairman of the alliance and chairman of Lextar, said that the scale of the LED component industry will grow to US$5.4 billion (equivalent to approximately RMB 33.636 billion) this year, an annual increase of more than 2 digits.

Su Fengzheng said at the meeting that the LED output value in Taiwan in 2014 was approximately US$4.7 billion (equivalent to approximately RMB 29.275 billion), and the scale of the LED component industry will continue to grow to US$5.4 billion in 2015. In the future, LED lighting will not only become the dominant player in the entire LED optoelectronics industry, but will also have business opportunities in a wide range of applications such as automobiles, advertising billboards, UV, IR, architectural lighting, and plant lighting.

The technical level of all links in the upstream, midstream and downstream LED industry chain in Taiwan is among the best in the world. The industry situation is that the upstream player, Evergrande, has concentrated capital; the downstream finished products have many applications, capital is dispersed, and small and medium-sized manufacturers work alone.

Su Fengzheng pointed out that in the face of the international competitive market and the pressure from mainland China’s huge production capacity and low-price products, the Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance takes the implementation results of internationally advanced countries such as Japan, the United States, and Europe as examples. Provide industry suggestions to the minister on the tariff system, LED subsidy measures, overseas marketing, etc., to enhance the international competitiveness and influence of Taiwan's LED lighting industry.

The Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance was officially established in 2012. The three major purposes of the establishment are "creating status, setting standards, and exploring business opportunities." Its members include leading companies in the upstream, midstream, and downstream LED industries, of which more than 90% are LED downstream application companies, including indoor lighting applications, car lights, plant lights, street lights, architectural lighting, industrial lighting and other diverse applications.
